During evidence, the Committee heard of the financial challenges faced by institutions, some if which related to identifying and assessing RAAC in estate buildings and undertaking remedial works where required. As the new Cabinet Secretary for Housing with a major focus on RAAC in housing stock, the Committee agreed to write to you to seek information on what steps the government plan to take in relation to supporting Scotland’s colleges and universities deal with RAAC and what discussions you will have with education Ministers on this subject.

I noted in that original response that the UK National Screening Committee (NSC) does not currently recommend population screening for cardiac conditions associated with sudden cardiac death in the young, and that I had written to ask whether the NSC had plans to review this recommendation. The NSC provided a response on 27 December 2023, in which they advised that no new peer-reviewed published evidence has been provided to change the NSC’s position since its most recent review, in 2019.
