Annual Report for the Criminal Justice Committee (13 May 2022 to 12 May 2023) - Action Plan and Priorities for the Justice Sector in Session 6
The Committee notes the progress that has been made this parliamentary year in delivering on some of the recommendations made by the Committee in its Action Plan, including:
Bringing in a new process in Scottish prisons to reduce the smuggling of drugs by introducing the photocopying of prisoner mail;
Consideration now being given to a proposal to end the use of Friday releases from prisons, which was included in the Bail and Release from Custody (Scotland) Bill;
Proposal by the Scottish Government to introduce a pilot scheme to enable survivors of rape to have access to transcripts from their court cases.

Report on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on equalities and human rights - Domestic abuse and child contact
SWA explained some abusive ex-partners had not returned their children after a contact visit, as they claimed someone in the household had developed symptoms of COVID-19 and therefore the child needed to isolate with them.

The Committee has agreed that it wishes to consider in more detail whether other individuals visiting or working in the Parliament – including Scottish Government staff – with whom Members come into contact in the course of their parliamentary duties, should also be included in section 7.5 of the Code of Conduct.

Annual Report - Forth Replacement Crossing
As part of its monitoring of the project, the Committee paid close attention to the development of the related Public Transport Strategy and the use of the Forth Road Bridge as a dedicated crossing for public transport, cyclists and pedestrians.
Members of the Committee also visited the construction site of the new bridge on 31 October 2016.
