It is important that we come to a holding position that will give guidance on the formation of cross-party groups. Given the new composition of the Parliament, we must be flexible.
When I was elected, I was as guilty and as full of enthusiasm as other MSPs in saying that I would join groups, but the reality has now set in. New groups are suggested and the same people are involved.
The proposed business programme still allows a minimum of one and a half hours for a debate on the Enterprise and Lifelong Learning Committee's report on the new economy. The convener of that committee was consulted and is content with the proposal.
The primary legislation would not require to be amended. That approach would allow new treatments—or changes to treatments—to be included in the regulations less bureaucratically and more swiftly.
To ask the Scottish Executive whether it will provide a breakdown of the costs of recruiting the new Director of the Scottish Manufacturing Advisory Service.
