(S5O-01726) In November 2017, I announced the Scottish Government’s intention to build on the success of the schools for the future programme and our plan to publish, as part of the programme for government, a new education investment plan.
With the introduction of the Islands (Scotland) Act 2018 (the ‘Act’) and the National Islands Plan (NIP), North Ayrshire Council (NAC) identified an opportunity to test new ways of working across island communities and businesses, local government, Scottish Government (SG), community planning partners and Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) to deliver the ambitious objectives outlined in the Act and NIP, as well as to provide national and international learning.
We have already committed investment of £250 million over 10 years to peatland restoration, and an additional £150 million over the next five years to forestry. The latest policies and proposals are outlined in the recent “Securing a Green Recovery on a Path to Net Zero: Climate Change Plan 2018–2032—update”.
That successful visit marks the start of the bilateral review process and an opportunity to continue building a positive relationship with our strong European ally, which is a priority market for our export growth plan.
The final plan will be strengthened by the bold new low-carbon commitments set out in the First Minister’s programme for government, which are exemplified by phasing out the need for new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2032.
Cross-border Tourism (Northumberland and Cumbria) To ask the Scottish Government what discussions it has had with Visit Northumberland, Visit Cumbria and local authorities regarding promoting cross-border tourism.
In 2015, the Scottish Government commissioned the latest review of goose policy, which included issues around the support that is offered to farmers to manage geese in Scotland through goose management schemes.
