Standards Committee, 25 Apr 2001

However, there must be organisations who find giving evidence even more of a burden than the STUC does, given that the STUC's membership is fairly skilled and professionally long in the tooth. I also noticed that the state of New York has produced a citizens guide to lobbying, to help members of the public to get their thoughts and ideas across to politicia...

The time bar should be calculated from when the event took place. However, if new evidence comes to light, for example of a crime—an obvious example would be pensioners who find that their pension fund has gone broke or that someone has stolen from it—we should be able to return to the matter.

Official Report Meeting date: 28 September 2006

Plenary, 28 Sep 2006

Resolved, That the Parliament recognises the central role that small businesses play in delivering both economic growth and local services and welcomes the success that the Scottish Executive has had in supporting the growth in the total employment and overall number of small businesses and new business start-ups in Scotland since 1999; welcomes the benefit that small firms gain from a range of grant schemes that encourage the development of new products and processes, the creation or safeguarding of jobs and becoming more energy efficient, and also welcomes the Executive's Small Business Rates Relief Scheme that results in around 70% of non-domestic rate subjects in Scotland receiving rates relief of up to 50% and the decision to equalise the poundage with England from 1 April 2007, which demonstrates our determination to deliver the right conditions for all businesses to grow by encouraging yet more small business start-ups, creating more jobs, widening the tax base, increasing local economic activity and improving local services across Scotland.

Resolved, That the Parliament notes its resolution of 5 April 2000 which approved expenditure of up to £195 million on the Holyrood Project and notes the good progress of the construction of the Holyrood Parliament Building; welcomes the fact that most of the tender packages have come in at prices in line with the cost estimates but recognises the effect of an above-average inflation rate in the construction industry in the Edinburgh area; further notes the identification of possible savings by the Holyrood Progress Group, which has led to unanimous decisions by both the Progress Group and the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body to authorise savings of £2.5 million, but endorses their firm commitment not to compromise the quality of Scotland's new...
