In response to a question from the Committee on this matter, the Cabinet Secretary commented that agreeing to these schemes would be "a helpful way of reintroducing the certainty that the Prime Minister's announcement removed".iOfficial Report, 21 November 2023, col. 4
In response to a further question, she confirmed that the Scottish Government's own target remained to "phase out the need to buynew petrol and diesel cars and vans" by 2030, although the Scottish Government would not have the power to implement such a ban on its own.

A number of witnesses such as Scottish Environment LINK, RTPI Scotland, Scottish Young Planners Network and City of Edinburgh Council considered that potential areas for SDZs should be allocated through the development plan process (such as the LDP or NPF) rather than in isolation.
This is certainly something that has been borne out on my visits to a range of outdoor centres. A key consideration is that the costings below, whichever approach were to be adopted, would by no means be entirely new spend.
We are now in a good position on that. Since I started, I have had five new members of staff. Having a new member of staff every three weeks is not bad, but it is probably not a sustainable increase.
