(S1O-2263) In the light of the advice available to them, ministers introduced a one-year rephasing of new highers in 1998. In the light of concerns expressed by teachers, I announced in June a further rephasing of the new English and communication higher.
Our intention has always been that the new duties in the Standards in Scotland's Schools etc Bill should be enforceable by that mechanism and we have introduced the amendment to give effect to that intention.
I do, however, remain committed to investing £100million of public capital in the development of a gold standard new children’s hospital.This is over and above the basic formula allocation which is approximately £100million per annum.

To ask the Scottish Executive what impact the Department of Trade and Industry’s responsibility for reaching a justification decision on new nuclear power stations would have on the power of the Scottish minister with responsibility for planning to stop the building of new nuclear power stations in Scotland.
This will look at thenumber of new trains required and potential costs for all of our projects,including EARL, and passenger growth initiatives from 2009 onwards.A completed plan will beproduced for consideration by Transport Scotland later in 2006.
