Whilst the precise form and scope of the duty has yet to be decided, (a consultation was launched on October 4 2005 and will run until January 12 2006) it is expected to include a requirement for key public authorities, including the Executive, to conduct and publish a gender impact assessment, covering all major proposed developments in employment/policy/services. A duty to assess policies for their impact on race is already in place and a duty to promote equality of opportunity for disabled people will come into effect from December 2006.
