The proposal for a council regulation contains an alarming feature; it proposes to abolish the present advisory committee, because it does not work, and to establish a new one. It is difficult to find out who the committee members will be or how they will be chosen, but there are one or two points that we should be alerted to.

We would not want a petition to arise and then be attended to after the event because important business was going through Parliament. That would be bad news for the public. That is exactly the kind of thing that we should debate at our next meeting—whether there should be criteria by which the clerk advises the convener to call a special meeting.
