To ask the Scottish Executive whether a two-year extension of the GNER franchise for the east coast main line is in the best interests of Scotland and what the reasons are for its position on this matter.
I beg the Scottish ministers to take the matter seriously and to produce an action plan early in the new year. I thank Alex Neil for initiating this worthwhile debate.
I believe that there is now greater awareness of how the parliamentary question system can best be used and managed and of the various mechanisms that are open to members to access information.
If we went back to the bad old days of old Labour, we would find an impractical view being presented on an issue such as this. It seems to me that new Labour has come to terms with reality, and trying to address the issues in the way that the minister has chosen seems to offer the best way forward.I would like to add...
