Official Report Meeting date: 25 January 2005

Justice 2 Committee, 25 Jan 2005

I contend that to leave the word in will take us out of line with best practice in Europe. If the minister is saying that we have some of the best health and safety standards in Europe, we should welcome and protect that, not reduce it by accepting a lower standard than the health and safety directives that are comin...

I agree that more needs to be done to ensure that we speed the progress of new public transport projects. The delays in planning and land acquisition in relation to new park-and-ride projects have been frustrating.

Public Petitions Committee, 20 Mar 2007

We also received tremendous support from the committee's former senior clerks Jim Johnston and Steve Farrell and from Joanne Clinton, who put up with me talking about football at all our preparatory meetings with great grace. As well as the clerks, I thank the staff of the official report, who have had to sit through our bickering over petitions and who have done their best to put our discussions on the record.I thank everyone for the work that they have put in and the support that they have given me in my role as convener.
Official Report Meeting date: 15 March 2007

Plenary, 15 Mar 2007

If the good people of Hamilton South and the First Minister intervene positively, we will do our best to undertake that work in the near future.
Official Report Meeting date: 15 February 2007

Plenary, 15 Feb 2007

It is entirely inappropriate to seek to turn the discussion in that direction. The issue is about how we deal with avian flu and other food safety problems. The best way to do that is to work in partnership not only with farmers and other food producers here in Scotland but with those south of the border who are faced with such outbreaks and challenges.
Official Report Meeting date: 1 February 2007

Plenary, 01 Feb 2007

I am sure that Fergus Ewing and others join me in doing so.There have been many road improvements and safety education programmes over recent years, but Transport Scotland's forthcoming road safety plan, scheduled for publication in April 2007, will further improve road safety on the trunk road network through a safety engineering programme that will employ innovation and apply best available practice. I entirely endorse the First Minister's sentiments.
