As a result, I have lodged amendment 50, which ensures that people living in adult care homes can always connect with the people who are important to them, both in and out of the home, unless there are exceptional circumstances. Indeed, even where there are exceptional circumstances, the amendment requires some types of visit always to be supported, namely in end-of-life situations and where the suspension of visiting would cause “serious harm to the resident’s health or wellbeing” that would outweigh other risks.
