I apologise to the Auditor General for not being here at the beginning of his briefing.Two points occur to me. First, the policy was not thought through carefully.
I make no comment on the petition, but I point out that the petitioner can ask us to take certain actions and it is up to the committee to discuss the issue.

This crime category may include possession of articles that are not knives but have blades or sharp points but will not normally include possession of penknives or other short bladed articles.Crimes where a knife is used to threaten or injure will be recorded only under the relevant crime e.g.
To ask the Scottish Executive whether it intends to introduce road tolls for the Fort William to Mallaig road, and if so, at what point or points would the toll booth or booths be placed.
Given that none of the organisations that you have listed supported the points that were made in the petition and that, despite a number of reminders, the petitioner has not responded to the letters from the committee clerk, I recommend that we close the petition.
Also, I would have thought that, even were that to be the case, it would still be good form for there always to be a savings provision in such an order. We should, therefore, put that point to the Executive and seek an explanation.
It will be appropriate to report the final numbers as part of the audit later in the year. There being no further points, I suggest that the committee notes the responses.
