Such situations are far too common throughout Scotland and have been mentioned in motion after motion and during members' business debates. It is time that someone gets a grip of the issue and says that something has to happen.
We are also taking steps to reduce child poverty by giving parents real opportunities to increase their incomes. We are getting more parents into work through support for new deal programmes, by providing affordable child care and by supporting education and training programmes.

To ask the Scottish Executive what the total Gross Value Added is at current basic prices for (a) Scotland and (b) each local authority area in Scotland. The latest cash estimates ofGross Value Added (GVA or GDP at basic prices) available for Scotland arepresented in the Office for National Statistics Regional Accounts.
Information is kept on the basis of numbers of visits rather than visitors. The figures given, therefore, include both individual high-profile visitors and group visits to the Parliament.)
We need to know why such a cosy relationship seems to exist at the top end of the chain and why all price movements ultimately get passed down to the farmer. That is the key point that I made in my submission.
I am not aware of the local circumstances that Christine Grahame has reported, but I am happy to ensure that she gets a ministerial reply if she writes to me about them.
