Following interview processes, Ministers have decided to designate Professor Alan Alexander as the prospective Chair and Dr Jon Hargreaves as the prospective Chief Executive of the proposed new authority, Scottish Water, subject to the successful passage of the forthcoming Water Services Bill. Their appointments will only be confirmed when Parliament approves the passage of the Water Services Bill.Professor Alexander is currently Chair of West of Scotland Water.
However, health boards are required to monitor and evaluate the success of their smoking cessation services as a whole. The Scottish Executive is currently reviewing the progress health boards have made in the provision of such services with the funding made available to them for that purpose.
To ask the Scottish Executive how much was spent by local authorities on personal social services, net of any income received from charges made for such services, in (a) 1995-96, (b) 1996-97, (c) 1997-98, (d) 1998-99 and (e) 1999-2000.
Medical practitioners have been given comprehensive guidance on how to prescribe these drugs safely and effectivelyPeople who may have developed dependency problems can obtain help from a wide range of medical, psychiatric and community services. Where benzodiazepines are used in conjunction with illegal drugs, these services will benefit significantly from the additional £100 million which the Executive has allocated to counter drug misuse.

To ask the Scottish Executive what action it will take with regard to any change in maternity provision proposed by a health board which does not fulfil the levels of care model for childbirth set out in the Framework for Maternity Services in Scotland. NHS boards have been asked to test their strategies against the Framework for Maternity Services in Scotland and a National Group will be set up to implement the framework, and this will include developing a performance management framework to be used in assessing implementation.
