This is the seventh meeting in 2001 of the Justice 2 Committee and I welcome the witnesses and members of the public who are here today.I have a brief announcement. We have a new senior assistant clerkâI extend a welcome to Claire Menzies, who was previously assistant clerk to the conveners liaison group.
I believe that a couple of members are on their way, but we will start.Some members suggested that I should wish them a happy new year, but I am sure that that was facetious.There are no private items on the agenda.
That concludes a session that, for the benefit of new members, is not the record for the shortest meeting of the Subordinate Legislation Committee, but is not far off it.
Convener The committee must now choose a new convener. I remind members that it was agreed on 17 June 1999 that the convener of the Education, Culture and Sport Committee should come from the Labour party.
