When assessing its ‘effectiveness’ in reducing child poverty, it is important to remember that the latest statistics for 2022-23 do not reflect the full impact of the increase in the SCP to £25 in November 2022.
There is less than a year and a half for the Government to put in place its plans for the new entitlement. To my mind, the best approach would be to have the experts and the people with lived experience design the new benefit from the get-go.
