We are working hard to ensure that training is available for GPs, so that they feel confident about getting involved in such programmes. We believe that the best way of delivering methadone treatment is through shared-care arrangements, with GPs at the heart.

Does the minister agree that, whatever the outcome of the chief medical officer in England and Wales's report, there is an urgent need for research in Scotland into the causes and cures for ME, and that the best agency to foster and encourage such research is the national health service?
