Henry McLeish and I, with the aid of Colin Montgomerie, will launch the golf tourism strategy next week. I will also visit the European open in Ireland at the weekend and will speak to the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation, Mr McDaid.
Will the meetings with Communities Against Poverty be formal meetings of the committee or visits? I should have clarified that. We decided that it would not be appropriate to fit those meetings into the committee's formal programme, but instead have them take place on afternoons.
That could mean just about anything. Does a visit to a certain part of Sutherland or Perthshire, the presence of a Highland granny or absentee ownership of a few thousand acres allow an applicant to qualify for an appointment?
I do not want to go through them all line by line, but a variety of people have offered us information, presentations, possible inquiry topics, visits and so on. I would like committee members to look at the paper and offer comments.
Therefore, if we were going to pass on an item of correspondence which asked us to visit somewhere, or make a decision, or if it raised an urgent issue, the reporter would consider it, liaise on the matter and, when appropriate, bring it to the attention of the committee.
