After that date, the ScotRail franchise has benefited from the delivery of 222 new train carriages. The table shows how many new train carriages have been (a) ordered and (b) introduced.
Even at this early stage, the uptake has been encouraging—established SMEs and new start-ups have taken advantage of the flexibility that the new scheme offers.
That is why the £42 million to which I referred will be used to give revenue support for the development of new ideas and new devices and the £8 million will be given in capital support for construction.
