Supported by: Gillian Martin*, Clare Haughey*, Ash Denham*, Ruth Maguire*, Ben Macpherson*, David Stewart*, John Finnie*, Bill Kidd*, David Torrance* *S5M-05401 Miles Briggs: Macmillan Cancer Support That the Parliament welcomes the — publication of a report from Macmillan Cancer Support, No Regrets, which looks at ways of improving end-of-life care, which includes talking more openly about the subject; notes that almost two-thirds of people surveyed think that death is not talked about enough; understands that the report also suggests that, with the right support, 64% of people with a terminal cancer would like to die at home, but that only 30% currently do, and that although only 1% indicated that they would like to die in hospital, 38% currently do; notes that it also highlights the charity s project, ’ Building on the Best, which aims for earlier conversations involving people and their families about their care so they can be part of each decision and emphasises the importance of anticipatory care planning; commends all of the country's cancer and palliative care charities on what it considers their outstanding efforts to provide world-class support and care, and believes that this new report is a positive and important contribution to the debate regarding how people with terminal conditions can be better supported, in charge of their care and allowed to die in the location of their choice.
