I cannot agree with anything John Swinburne said about the benefits of quangos in the new towns of Scotland. I represent a new town and I am sitting next to two colleagues who were born and brought up in new towns.
Some of those people are very wealthy; in Kenneth Macintosh's Eastwood constituency, we see the golden oldies pouring out. Many of them could buy and sell the bus companies, and they are getting free travel.
As I was saying in my final answer to Mr Swinney, the evidence of those better services is there for anyone who wishes to visit not only our hospitals, but our clinics, doctors' surgeries and other health facilities throughout Scotland.
