Official Report Meeting date: 28 January 2003

Local Government Committee, 28 Jan 2003

It is a slightly unfortunate coincidence that the body in question is the one about which there has been most controversy at stages 1 and 2 of the bill. I am surprised that the information regarding the loss of its charitable status came to light only at such a late stage.
Official Report Meeting date: 11 October 2002

Rural Development Committee, 11 Oct 2002

A vote was taken, and the result was 2:1 in favour of being inside the boundary.
Official Report Meeting date: 8 October 2002

Public Petitions Committee, 08 Oct 2002

Staff Sargent Ashbaugh is an expert of that eminence and I understand his employers, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, would permit him to undertake the task if they were approached by the Scottish Parliament Committee.Accordingly, I would like to add my support to the request of the petitioners and would suggest that the petition be referred to one of the Justice Committees (perhaps Justice 1, given the fact that they have already asked the Justice Minister questions about the matter) with a view to a speedy request to the RCMP for assistance. The work of Staff Sargent Ashbaugh need not take more than a couple of months and there is therefore enough time for the enquiry to bear fruit before Parliament is dissolved next year. Finally, can I say that although the petition has arisen out of the McKie and Asbury cases, it is in no way solely concerned with them, indeed these cases are now on their way to resolution in the civil courts.
Official Report Meeting date: 17 September 2002

Rural Development Committee, 17 Sep 2002

The frontispiece says that the reason for the order is that it"prohibits from 4/9/02 to 3/9/03"various activities, but the order itself refers to the period of prohibition as two years, not one, and extending until 3 September 2004. That is in article 1. I presume that the correct figure is 2004, as stated in the order, not 2003, as stated in the frontispie...

Official Report Meeting date: 16 April 2002

Audit Committee, 16 Apr 2002

If there are no other questions, as agreed under item 1 we will now go into private to allow the committee to prepare for its consideration of reports on accounts at its next meeting, and to agree the terms of its report on its inquiry into the Auditor General's report "Overview of the National Health Service in Scotland 2000/01".
Official Report Meeting date: 26 March 2002

Finance Committee, 26 Mar 2002

I presume that we will be able to organise those meetings at times that will suit members.Agenda item 3 also covers the budget process, specifically the options for meeting outwith Edinburgh for stage 1 of the 2003-04 budget process. Paper FI/02/6/3 indicates that our current choice of meeting date—27 May this year—is not an option.

Is the member suggesting that we make the point to which he referred our No 1 conclusion? I am not suggesting that.

Justice 1 Committee, 19 Jun 2001

I recognise that the sentences imposed by the courts are outwith the remit of the Justice 1 Committee, unless we are talking about mandatory sentences and the limits that can be imposed on sentences.
