To ask the Scottish Executive what procedures are in place to ensure that both male and female prison officers are available to search prisoners at visiting times. I have asked Tony Cameron, Chief Executive of the Scottish Prison Service to respond.

His response is as follows:SPS has no record of any prison visiting committee having made representations since 1997 on the treatment of sex offenders in prisons.
That is fine, but let me take the minister to another point in the bill. Proposed new subsection (1B)(b) of section 28 of the 1995 act says that proposed new subsection (1A)"applies even if release of the accused would be required but for that subsection."
