That is exactly why we have asked for a review of NHS 24. I have visited NHS 24 as recently as last evening, and it is clear to me that, apart from staff shortages, the greatest strain on the service has come about as a result of general practitioners opting out of out-of-hours care, especially at weekends, coupled with some lack of understanding by callers of how the out-of-hours system operates.The Executive has left the publicising of new out-of-hours provision to individual health boards, with variable effectiveness.
