It may be of interest to the member to know that last year Strathclyde fire brigade, Scottish Water and Strathclyde police had to deal with 4,000 open hydrants and that the cost of doing so came to something in the order of £1 million. Scottish Water is in close touch with the police and the fire authorities on this serious issue.
