Motion agreed to, That the Parliament is committed to ensuring that Scotland’s NHS remains in public hands and free at the point of need; recognises that Scotland’s caring services face challenges common across the developed world, including those derived from an ageing population, changing demands of service provision and increased costs associated with new medicines and technologies; supports the achievements that quality improvement programmes have made, such as the Scottish Patient Safety Programme and the Early Years Collaborative, and the importance of sustaining and spreading these achievements; agrees that the 2020 vision’s strategy for integrated health and social care is key to ensuring sustainable caring services long into the future; commends the contribution of NHS and social care staff in caring for Scotland and in seeking to achieve the aims of the 2020 vision; believes that the contribution of staff, stakeholders and users of the country’s caring services will be vital to the development and implementation of delivery plans for the short and long term that meet the aims of the 2020 vision, and welcomes the recent additional investments in Scotland’s NHS, including a further £100 million over three years to address delays in discharge and support people to remain at home or in a homely setting for as long as possible.

Public Petitions Committee 23 November 2010

The petitioner, whom I met a long time ago, was looking for a legal requirement that, when a trust is set up, it is, in effect, reduced to writing so that others can get at it. At the moment, that just does not work in the society in which we operate.

Public Petitions Committee 13 September 2010

I do not know, frankly, whether that would persuade the Scottish Government or the FBU to change their positions and support the petition, but it is worth conveying that suggestion from the petitioner to both the Scottish Government and the FBU to see what response we get. As there are no other comments from the committee, we propose to continue the petitio...
