Highland Council has carried out a partial survey each year since 2002 (of all settlements over 2,000 in population and the Inner Moray Firth area). 2002 was the first year that the council participated in the survey since 1993. Thus the figure of 26 hectares of reclaimed derelict land (in 2002) represents nine years worth of change.
