Compensation
There are existing compensation provisions. Under the new arrangements, the owner can be compensated where their animal is taken into possession and subsequently rehomed or euthanised, with the proviso that the compensation can be deferred if there is a related on-going criminal case.

This means that powers to design and implement policy flow directly from the EU to Scotland, and Scottish Government is free to set a new policy direction within the framework of the Common Agricultural Policy, independently of England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
