I pay tribute to Ross Finnie, who worked extremely hard and played a full part in a very satisfactory outcome.Maureen Macmillan is right to say that the rural economy is much broader than the agriculture industry alone, although that must be at the centre. The whole point of those additional payments, over and above the £0.5 billion in support payments that goes into Scottish agriculture every year through the European system, is to allow breathing space to consider with the industry the best way in which we can diversify and broaden the base of the rural community.
