Given that the Law Society of Scotland has recently announced a new process for handling complaints and that the regulation of the legal profession has been the subject of an extensive inquiry by the Justice 1 Committee, which is unlikely to conduct a further inquiry, perhaps we should draw a line under the petition and take no further action.

The Parliament, of course, recognises that and standing orders now oblige the lead committee, as well as the Finance Committee, to consider and report on financial memorandums at stage 1. The Finance Committee now reviews the memorandums in more detail than in the past to ensure that they are robust.

Yes, we became alarmed. As I said, a funding gap of £1 million to £2 million in the early or mid-life of a project is not necessarily a killer blow, but it becomes more worrying if, near the end of the project, the gap remains.
