In revising its clinical standards for stroke service in June 2009 to bring them into line with the new SIGN (Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network) Guideline on stroke management, NHS Quality Improvement Scotland (NHS QIS) set a more challenging standard than previously for admission to a stroke unit.
