Ministers have received representations from various stakeholders expressing concerns and seeking further engagement about the proposal to bring the Mental Welfare Commission into a new scrutiny body. Ministers are considering how these representations can be addressed in the proposed changes.

The mechanism for the creation of the new scrutiny bodies will be the legislative provisions included in the Public Services Reform Bill which it is now proposed will be introduced to Parliament in May this year.

To ask the Scottish Executive, further to its announcement on 24 August 2007 that it intends to replace the prison in Peterhead and close Craiginches prison in Aberdeen, what plans it has to establish new community prison facilities in Aberdeen.
