Under that Act, the Scottish Government made regulations (in force from 26 March 2020) to implement physical distancing and impose restrictions on gatherings, events and operation of business activity.
I am also concerned about its wider roll-out to a new array of venues, especially when many of those venues are pulling themselves up off the mat following the latest hospitality curbs.
It is one of the most human-relatable things that we would all do: once you get out of the immediate danger, you go to a new place and try to rebuild your life there.
It was quite helpful. On policy issues, if you want to get public engagement or a higher profile, I would look at a new initiative in the New Zealand Parliament.
The situation is similar to what happens when you get change: if you give somebody a £5 note and you get £3 back, is that notionally three of the same pounds you gave them, or are those three £1 coins completely different from the £5 note?

After a presentation by Dr Hosie, the Committee and CARM explored the case study included in the 2025-26 Equality and Fairer Scotland Budget Statement on employability, which was one of the priority policy areas in the Whole Family Equality Project’s questions in 2023.
Subsequently, 477 prisoners were released under these regulations between 26 June and 18 July 2024. Those that were eligible for release were short-term prisoners (serving a sentence of under four years) who had 180 days or less of their sentence left to serve.
