The Visitor Levy (Reviews and Appeals) (Scotland) Regulations 2026 [draft] were laid in the Scottish Parliament on 8 January 2026 and referred to the Local Government, Housing and Planning Committee.
We know that the parks have been very successful in supporting visitors and tourism and in doing so in a sustainable way that reduces the impact on vulnerable sites and on communities that face problems with visitor management.
However, will the minister undertake to put pressure on Transport Scotland to reconsider its rules on brown signs for tourist attractions? Many of the smaller tourist attractions and tourist businesses across Dumfries and Galloway are struggling to make their way through the bureaucracy.
I work at the University of Edinburgh and the Edinburgh Futures Institute, and I'm working with a group who are assessing the feasibility of a mutual credit system for the social enterprise sector, whereby social enterprises who exchange goods and services with one another can provide those goods and services using mutual credits instead of drawing down their cash reserves.
