*S6M-13245 Rona Mackay: Tribute to Beloved Scots Actress Gudrun Ure—That the Parliament celebrates the life of the talented actress of stage and screen, Gudrun Ure, from Milton of Campsie, who has died aged 98; pays tribute to her outstanding contribution to the arts, most notably for her portrayal on screen, at the age of 59, of a Scottish granny who gained superpowers, which won her legions of young fans in the much loved Super Gran ITV series, which ran from 1985 to 1987; understands that the show, which was screened in 60 countries, received an International Emmy award in the Children and Young People category in 1985; praises the depth and breadth of Ms Ure’s talents, as she appeared in numerous stage productions, radio plays and television shows during a long and successful career, including starring opposite Orson Welles in a 1951 stage version of Shakespeare’s Othello, which was directed by the Hollywood star; understands that Ms Ure passed away at her home in London, having moved to live there early in her career; expresses its sincere condolences to her family, and sends every kind wish to all those whose lives she touched in the constituency of Strathkelvin and Bearsden and beyond.
