S6M-01845: Monica Lennon: Scotland's Rail Unions Launch A Vision For Scotland's Railways - That the Parliament welcomes the report, A Vision For Scotland’s Railways, by Scotland’s rail unions, ASLEF, RMT, TSSA and UNITE, which it considers presents a transformative agenda for the future of passenger and freight services; understands that Scotland’s rail unions believe that the country cannot meet its environmental obligations without a world-class rail service that shifts people from lorries and cars onto trains; further understands that the report calls for the railway system to be green, reliable, affordable, well-staffed and punctual; understands that the report also calls for an end to profiteering, ticket office closures, job losses, budget cuts and reductions in services, using the COVID-19 pandemic as a justification; notes the view that the end of the Abellio franchise presents an opportunity to debate and action measures to make an investment in rail services and improve their quality and sustainability for the benefit of Central Scotland and beyond, and further notes the view that all MSPs and the Scottish Government should consider the report and PB/S6/21/85 engage with citizens, rail workers, trade unions, businesses and a range of organisations on its ideas and proposals.
