Why has the Scottish Executive chosen to employ commercial consultants at a cost of £80,000 and to call private meetings to discuss secret documents behind closed doors? Is not it imperative for the future of this Parliament and its reputation that we have open inquiries, with all evidence made available, in order to get at the whole truth?

We want that to happen; we have had discussions on the matter and we have allocated funds, with £22 million being spent this year and more to be spent in the future. Parliament's taking of powers to direct our universities on how to educate their students would, however, be a hugely controversial step that many—if not all—members would oppose.
