It is a Scottish Government Bill and the Economy, Energy and Fair Work (EEFW) Committee was designated as lead committee at stage 1.
The Bill would establish a new statutory body called Consumer Scotland with the primary objective of providing consumer advocacy and advice.
It will do this in two ways—
creating a new protection order, a Female Genital Mutilation Protection Order (FGMPO), that can impose conditions or requirements on a person.
Observers
The Bill requires the Electoral Commission to lay before the Parliament a new Code of Practice on the attendance of observers at the proceedings of each referendum.
This year, the Committee focused its budget scrutiny on how the Scottish Government’s budget promotes employment and encourages fair work, with a particular focus on Scotland’s new employment support services. The Committee also gathered evidence on the financing and support available to community and locally owned energy.
