Regarding the wider issue that the member raises about science qualifications and their relevance for people going into medicine, I think that, without taking anything away with regard to the importance of the qualifications for the particularly onerous entry requirements for medicine, we all have a responsibility to look at the changes that have taken place in the new qualifications system and to understand that in any given year, but particularly in fourth year at school, although a small number of subjects might be taken that does not mean that people will come out of school at the end of their six years with fewer qualifications.
