In his subsequent response of 7 October to the DPLRC's letter, the Minister for International Trade stated that, as it was unclear when the Procurement Bill would complete its passage through the UK Parliament, this approach would allow for quicker implementation of the UK-Australia and UK-New Zealand FTAs but avoid duplicate powers existing in perpetuity.
