Michelle Ballantyne was appointed as Member of the Scottish Parliament for the South Scotland region following the resignation of Rachael Hamilton MSP in May 2017.

Michelle trained at the Princess Alexandra School of Nursing at the London Hospital before moving into health service management, first in finance and then general management. Since 2005 she has worked in the voluntary sector, heading up drug and alcohol support services, and children and young people’s services. She is also a director of the manufacturing company she set up with her husband in 1990.

In 2012 Michelle was first elected as a local councillor on Scottish Borders Council, leading the Conservative Party Group. She was re-elected in 2017. 

Personal Interests:

Michelle is married and has six children. She enjoys Endurance horse riding and provides management support to Stable Life, an equine assisted learning charity. She is also managing Trustee of the Haining Charitable Trust – a country estate in Selkirk left for the benefit of the people of Selkirkshire.
