Questions and answers

Parliamentary questions can be asked by any MSP to the Scottish Government or the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body. The questions provide a means for MSPs to get factual and statistical information.

  • Written questions must be answered within 10 working days (20 working days during recess)
  • Other questions such as Topical, Portfolio, General and First Minister's Question Times are taken in the Chamber

To ask the Scottish Government, regarding the Clyde Cod Targeted Science Programme, for what reason a memorandum of understanding was entered into that allows one stakeholder, the Clyde Fishermen's Association, to formalise a preference regarding the marine scientists appointed to the programme.

To ask the Scottish Government, further to the commitment in the 2026 Scottish National Party manifesto to enact a statutory price cap on essential food items, what its response is to the comments reportedly made by the Scottish Retail Consortium and published in The Herald on 3 August 2026 that such a policy would not address the root cause of food price inflation and could lead to a wider range of products, and indeed sectors, being similarly targeted.

To ask the Scottish Government, regarding commercial fishing activity in Scottish inshore waters, whether it will provide the name and membership information of all the fishery (a) working groups, (b) co-management groups, (c) research groups and (d) management bodies, which are both informal or formally constituted, whose membership includes representatives of commercial fishing industry, scientists and/or Scottish Government officials and which are currently operating or have operated since 2020.
