Parliamentary questions can be asked by any MSP to the Scottish Government or the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body. The questions provide a means for MSPs to get factual and statistical information.

  • Written questions must be answered within 10 working days (20 working days during recess)
  • Other questions such as Topical, Portfolio, General and First Minister's Question Times are taken in the Chamber

To ask the Scottish Government, in light of the upcoming mandatory fortification of certain wheat products with folic acid, what plans it has to protect members of vulnerable groups for whom exposure to folic acid may have negative health effects, such as those on certain cancer treatments.

To ask the Scottish Government how many Scottish-domiciled students have had their student contribution fee paid for in order to study at (a) Trinity College Dublin, (b) University College Dublin, (c) University College Cork, (d) the National University of Ireland, Galway (now the University of Galway), and (e) the National University of Ireland, Maynooth (now Maynooth University), in each year since 2007-08, and what the total value of those payments was in each year.

To ask the Scottish Government what discussions it has had with the Competition and Markets Authority regarding the proposed direct award of contracts to Ferguson Marine for the construction of replacement vessels for the research vessel, Scotia, and the fisheries protection vessel, Minna, and two ferries under Phase 2 of the Small Vessel Replacement Programme, and on what dates these discussions took place.

To ask the Scottish Government what assessment it has made of the potential for the Scottish National Investment Bank (SNIB) to provide refund guarantees or patient capital to Scottish shipyards to explicitly facilitate the use of cross-border, multi-party tax lease structures, such as the revised ship-financing arrangements in Spain following changes to the Spanish Tax Lease system.
