Next meeting

Tuesday, September 23, 2025

The next meeting of the Circular Economy CPG will take place on Tuesday, 23rd September at 6pm.

This will be an online session.

Our theme for discussion will be "The Global Plastics Treaty and Scotland". In August, the international community meet in the hopes of agreeing a Global Plastics Treaty to end plastic pollution. Despite the impacts of plastic pollution continuing to rise, countries failed to agree a way forwards. Many of the solutions require local level action and communities in Scotland are already stepping up to tackle plastic pollution here. We will look at what happened in Geneva and Scotland’s role in tackling plastic pollution.
Our guest speakers for the evening include:

• Christina Dixon, Ocean Campaign Leader for the Environmental Investigation Agency who has attended all six rounds of the Global Plastics Treaty negotiations and will give an overview of what went wrong in Geneva and what happens next.
• Angela Anderson, Plastic Free Communities Scotland, who will talk about the network of communities on the front line of the plastics crisis in Scotland.
• John Berry, Marine Litter Development Officer for North Isles from the Scottish Islands Federation (SIF) will give an island perspective on marine plastics and how SIF are working with local communities and councils to tackle plastic pollution.
