Fife Business Donates to Maggie’s Fife

  • Submitted by: Roz McCall, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 10 February 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-07831

That the Parliament welcomes that the Kirkcaldy-based paper bag manufacturer, Smith Anderson, has donated £2,400 to Maggie’s cancer care centre in Fife as part of the charity’s "Double Your Donation" campaign; understands that Smith Anderson had agreed to match any sums donated up to the charity’s initial target of £2,400 and, with that goal surpassed, its donation took the final total to £5,018.62; further understands that the additional sum of £2,400 allows the centre to run for one day, and that the doubled donation allows the centre to operate for two days; understands that, in recent years, Smith Anderson has donated as much as £5,000 to Maggie’s Fife, which is based in the grounds of Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, as part of the "Double your Donation" campaign; further understands that, since Maggie’s opened its first centre in 1996, the charity has developed a programme of support that is proven to help people with cancer and their loved ones to take back control, and that Maggie’s Fife relies almost entirely on voluntary donations to be able to offer this high-quality, professional support, and wishes everyone involved in running Maggie’s centres across Mid Scotland and Fife, and the rest of Scotland, the very best as they continue their crucial work.
