Keep Me Off Your Xmas List

  • Submitted by: Christine Grahame, Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 14 December 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-02511

That the Parliament supports the Scottish SPCA campaign “Keep Me Off Your Xmas List" to emphasise the view that animals should not be an impulse buy or purchased as a surprise present at any time, but especially over Xmas; understands that, in previous years, the Scottish SPCA has taken in many animals who were bought as gifts and were then abandoned once the novelty had worn off; further understands that abandoned animals remain one of the top concerns of the Scottish SPCA over the festive season, and considers that buying a pet should not be decided on a whim and that people must understand the commitment required to give the care and attention that a pet needs before buying one, and pets should always be bought from a reputable source.
