Estranged Student Solidarity Week 2021

  • Submitted by: Ross Greer, West Scotland, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 22 November 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-02222

That the Parliament recognises that 22 to 26 November is Estranged Student Solidarity Week 2021; understands that the week serves as an opportunity for universities, colleges and student unions to highlight both the work that they are doing to support students, and the support that is on offer to estranged students; recognises the unique and additional barriers faced by students who do not have reliable family support, such as accessing student finance and securing guarantors for rental accommodation; urges all further and higher education bodies and institutions in Scotland to ensure that estranged students are fully supported in their studies; celebrates the work of individuals and groups, such as the Estranged and Care Experienced Students Network, in raising awareness of the issues faced by estranged students and in campaigning for improved support in recent years, and wishes all estranged students well in their studies.
