That the Parliament welcomes the return of the Boswell Book Festival to Dumfries House in East Ayrshire; recognises that the Festival is named after James Boswell, 9th Laird of Auchinleck and "father of modern biography", who was renowned for his biography of Samuel Johnson, doctor and diarist, which, it understands, is widely recognised as "the greatest biography in the English language"; further understands that the Festival largely celebrates biography and biographers, due to this connection, and that, at its heart, is a programme of stories taken from the inspirational lives of people past and present, told through talks, drama, art and music; recognises what it sees as the immense cultural and economic value that the Festival brings to East Ayrshire, as well the educational benefit of its Children's Festival, which seeks to engage school children from all backgrounds in Ayrshire and beyond; understands that an online festival was held in June 2021 and that, following its success, the event was streamed again online, with the addition of some new events designed to fit in with the launch of COP26; salutes the ingenuity of the organisers in managing not only to move the Festival online, but also to make it a success, and wishes the Boswell Book Festival the very best in the future.
