That the Parliament celebrates Shetland Wool Week 2021 and notes that, due to the ongoing COVID-19 precautions, an online version is taking place between 25 September and 3 October 2021; understands that events will take place from the most southern tip of Shetland to the most northerly island of Unst, which is famous for its beautiful lacework, with many locations in-between; congratulates Wilma Malcolmson, of Shetland Designer, for being patron two years in a row and for providing “Da Crofter’s Kep”, the official knitting pattern of Wool Week 2021; acknowledges the event is internationally acclaimed and a celebration of Britain’s most northerly native sheep, the textile industry and the rural farming community in Shetland; appreciates that Shetland knitwear has a deserved respect gained from many generations of hard working crofters and knitters producing some of the finest lace and Fair Isle knitwear; further understands that this year there will be an extensive range of exhibitions, classes and events, which will cover many different subjects, including weaving, spinning, dyeing, Fair Isle and lace knitting, as well as many other fascinating subject areas; commends the organisers, and looks forward to Wool Week’s continued success.
